How to Make Your Ebike Go Faster

How to Make Your Ebike Go Faster

🔧 1. Upgrade the Battery

  • A higher voltage battery (e.g., 52V instead of 48V) increases the motor’s RPM.

  • This directly gives more speed, but your controller and motor must support it.

⚡ 2. Unlock or Reprogram the Speed Limit

  • Many eBikes are factory-limited to 25–32 km/h (15–20 mph).

  • You can unlock the controller via settings, a hidden menu, or third-party software/hardware.

  • Some bikes use NFC keys, apps, or displays that allow adjustments.

🛠 3. Upgrade the Controller

  • A better controller can push more current to the motor.

  • Increases torque and top speed if your motor and battery can handle it.

🚴 4. Change Tires & Wheel Setup

  • Thinner, high-pressure street tires reduce rolling resistance compared to heavy fat tires.

  • A larger wheel size (if compatible) covers more ground per revolution.

⚙️ 5. Gear Ratio Adjustments

  • If your bike has gears, switching to a smaller rear cog or larger front chainring helps you pedal at higher speeds.

🧼 6. Reduce Drag & Resistance

  • Keep chain lubricated and drivetrain clean.

  • Remove extra weight or accessories that slow you down.

  • A more aerodynamic riding position makes a noticeable difference.

🔩 7. Motor Upgrade

  • Swap for a more powerful motor (e.g., 750W → 1000W+).

  • Hub motors can often be replaced without changing the whole bike.

👉 Each upgrade has limits — pushing components too far can overheat the motor, shorten battery life, or wear out parts faster.
